Picking a Wedding Date

So you’re recently engaged and thinking about what date to pick. In addition to the availability of your venue, your key guests, your favourite florist here are some other things to consider. It’s possible none of these will apply, but they might so if you’ve factored them in you will reduce any unwanted surprises on the day!

Bank Holidays - these can easily be found online, but it’s worth knowing there’s a change in 2022. The late May Bank Holiday moves to Monday 5 June, with an extra Bank Holiday on Friday 2 June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Sporting Events - While for you the only event in the calendar is your Wedding Day, if a large proportion of your guests are into a particular sport (think Wimbledon Finals; British Grand Prix; The Masters; or any number of footballing events) there’s a chance you won’t have their full attention at various points during the day. Only you can decide if you are OK with that!

Superstitions - If you are considering a Friday, consider how you feel about 13/8/21; 13/5/22; 13/1/23; or 13/10/23? I have some very happily married friends who got a great deal on 13 July….

Other People’s Dates - You will know your key guests and whether they will be delighted there’s a celebration on their anniversary or birthday, or whether they are likely to be a bit grumpy that you didn’t choose one of the many other options!

Local Events - If your town or village is famous for its big annual event think about whether you want to clash with it or pick another date and enjoy it.

Having said all of this, it’s your day and your choice so pick the date and enjoy the planning!
